Here's What I Feel by Yvette Managan

Here's What I Feel
Here's what I feel about last week:
the scarlet letter
caught you were caught
with the meat in your mouth
grey tendrils rising from the smoking gun
and you said who me? No it's not true.

Here's what I feel about last night:
you looked so beautiful
your hair splayed and floating
in the shifting water
an oleander leaf rested
east-west on your cheek eyes closed
your last gasping a struggle
now over.

Here's what I feel about next month:
my plastic cup clacks
dull and nearly quiet
across the steel bars not satisfying
this is my list of tomorrows
but payment and I breathe
soft and gentle
through lines of panic
