Promise by Bill West

Pray for me upon this
sea of night
Marie Celeste rocking
empty like a cot contents forgot.

Face and hands
gone and a kiss
mouths the dark
Moses drifts
drawn from water.

In dreams I burn
in tongues
hell from heaven
darkness breaks
and light is fled.

But dawn lifts
wide bright clouds
and words fly
rustling like birds
beaks sprigged
greeting rainbows.
