Lake Tranquility by Andrew Stancek

DAWN
Dawn smile radiant, she accepts. Surface still --paddle grazes. The reed-hidden heron, startled, soars.

MIDDAY
Bare toes squish mud-smacked, hands held, he squints into midday sun, embrace -- bliss.

TWILIGHT
Last sun rays shimmer through drooping willow branches, frog cacophony.

STORM
Thunder. Flash illumines cheek-rain. Rustle, scream, retreat.

MIDNIGHT
Starless sky: he wades, stumbles. Received, head down, mouth an O, arms outstretched. Bubbles, nothing.
