Hanging over the Miljacka River, the three sculptures are the work of Artist Enes Sivac. Created in 1993 to hang over the Sarajevo Main River the sculptures were created as symbols of the city's cultural resistance and the indestructible spirit of its citizens suffering through the bloody war conditions. . Twenty six years later, the city renewed the sculptures and brought them back to hang over the river, next to the Festina Lente Bridge.

Taken on a hot August morning, the water was low, the long dry summer has taken a toll. But the light was divine and the flowers sown along the bridges were in glorious bloom.

The Festina Lente Bridge spans the Miljacka River, it is 38 meters long and features a distinctive podlike looping form which allows pedestrians to sit and reflect for a while and allow life to flow on its way. The bridge connects the Mak Dizdar embankment near the Academy of Fine Arts with Radićeva street. It was officially opened on 22 August 2012.

It was a hot August morning. Muggy, but the air was clear. It had that luminous artistic quality that nature occasionally proffers, it was as if the air was lit from within. Running low due to the much publicized prolonged heat and dry conditions, the river added to the scene as sun-threaded-rays spotted the surface and appeared to settle on the bed. Light falling straight into the soaked, raw earth.

The city was busy, and preparations for the Sarajevo International Film Festival, 2026, are on a two-day countdown. Visiting the city for the celebrations, I was out and about early and I popped down to the river to admire the sculptures: The Equilibrists Over River: Symbols of Resilience, Hope, and Unity. They were created by Enes Sivac in 1993 to hang over the main river, created in a time of war and grief and carved from energy found in the darkest days.

Art allows one to step into another space. To buy time, to make more time, to create more space, if only for a little while. And one cannot but be struck by the humanity carved into the form that hangs over the waterway in front of the Festina Lente Bridge, which translates from Latin to 'Make Haste Slowly'. ...

This morning I stopped for a while by the Miljacka in the city of Sarajevo and I saw a celebration of soul and resilience that was built into a voice that grows these values with each passing year.
